What We're About
On January 14, 2025 the American Mensa National Hearings Committee (3 unelected people), in collaboration with AMC Chair Lori Norris, removed 10 sitting members of the AMC, in violation of NY State Law and the American Mensa bylaws. Norris has vowed to unilaterally "install" replacements for the 8 elected Regional Vice Chairs.

This move came a mere two weeks after the same 8 elected Regional Vice Chairs voted to censure Norris for a variety of violations of ethics, leadership best practices, and American Mensa bylaws.

The 8 elected Vice Chairs, along with two appointed, nonvoting officers of AMC were removed for "acts inimical," the only detail of which that was released is that they supposedly violated bylaws. The significant problems with this ruling include:

-
Violating Mensa bylaws is not included in the definition of "Acts Inimical"
-
The ultimate authority for determining the meaning of Mensa bylaws is the AMC itself, the very people who supposedly violated bylaws.
-
Under New York state law (under which American Mensa was incorporated) elected board members may only be removed by a vote of the same people who elected them, robbing the membership of their voice.
-
Mensa International bylaws require any Hearings Process to have an independent review and appeal procedure. No such procedure exists for American Mensa's hearings process.
-
The Hearings Committee secret tribunal effectively disenfranchised 80 percent of American Mensa, and did it in total secrecy, with no justification to the membership.
-
American Mensa's bylaws require any hearings process to be "fair and impartial." This process was neither, with the Hearings Committee and the Chair (an ad hoc member of the committee) clearly advocating and promoting the position of the complainant.

Make Your Voice Heard
Sign the petitions below to make your voice heard. The first demands that the Hearings Committee release all evidence presented for and against the ten members of the American Mensa Board who were removed
The second petition recognizes the fundamental failure of the leadership of censured Chair Lori Norris, who first gained her position through the mysterious resignation of her predecessor and then who ran unopposed for the highest elected position in Mensa. It calls for a recall election to determine the next Chair.
